Drop Everything And Read - Double your loan quotas

UPDATE (10 Nov 05):
Thanks to the good people at Tomorrow.sg for highlighting the initiative. However, I'm kicking myself for a gross typo in my comment in my submission to the editors. I wrote wrongly that AV items could be borrowed by anyone. That's incorrect. The annual Premium Membership fees still apply:
"Readers at Tomorrow.sg might be interested in this loan promotion. It's a great way to borrow more AV items (normally there's an annual fee for this)."
My apologies for the error.

This holiday season, just Drop Everything and Read.
To help you along, the NLB is DOUBLING your loan limit from 1 Nov 05 to 31 Jan 06.

YES, regular members can borrow up to 8 items, and Premium members, up to 16 items. This includes the borrowing of audio-visual (AV) materials, capped up to a maximum of four AV items at any one time.

So, what are you waiting for?

Drop Everything And Read (DEAR)

  1. Wow! Two for one special at the Library... perhaps your readers could start using librarything.com to start cataloging what they read with tags (del.icio.us / flickr), ISBN, user reviews and shared bookmarks.

    Yeesh...

Can't complaint, after all, it's an additional benefit granted.

But I'd much rather have them remove the renewal fee, or at least lengthen the period you can keep the books before renewal.

Working long hours on alternating shifts really takes alot out of you. How to find time to read consistently??

i went to the library 2 days ago, saw that same poster, tried to borrow 8 books, but the machine didn't let me. by the 4th book, it said i'd exceeded loan limit. because i was in a rush, i didn't get the chance to ask the librarian. so what's up with that?

I don't work shifts in my current job capacity. It's still a challenge to find time to read but there are ways -- on the train to and from work; read instead of watching TV... it's like asking, "where do you find time to eat?". If you have to, you have to.

Hope you weren't too inconvenienced. Definitely a systems error. Might happen to some membership accounts. Not a major problem -- just approach the staff at the Customer Service Counter and they'll issue the items to you.

  6. Thanks for dropping by...

Increasing the loan limit was cool, but i also felt that extending or waiving off renewal fees should also apply during this 'promotion period' too since you can borrow up to eight books.

btw, does your employer knows you've got a blog and you are helping with the reviews? you should get them to sponsor your page and then make it BIG AND KNOWN. ha. just kidding. only a thought.

    Cheers!

  7. Hi BlueAngel, that's something the library can consider if we're doing something similar. Yeah, my employer knows about this blog. I don't hide that fact from them. They don't endorse it but neither is it disapproved.
