Day 5 (SAOUG Blog Course, Part 5)

[Updated: 17th Feb, 10.42am]

9am, 17th Feb 2006. University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa. Waiting for the class to start.

The connectivity is excellent. Took this picture, which I'm going to use to show them Flickr.com, and how it could be applied as a teaching tool.

  2. Hi, good to know that everything is ok down there. Free drop by here to tell my friends what you know about the USIS library.

  3. Hope both you and Rajen survied your African experience - which we feel is somtimes more like negotiating the information dirt road than the information superhighway!

Just so you can show a success story as the result of your endeavours, I came back to work and set up a really rudimentary blog for some of the medical students I teach. I had the first lecture (post blog site) with them this morning at 8:00 am SA time, and was delighted to find my first comment less than forty-five minutes later!! (See http://whsl.blogspot.com)
Now I need to learn some more sophisticated tricks ... like how to insert a hypertext link!

Getting a blog site up and running for SAOUG is going to be much more of an onerous task, as I need to consult - so far, no word from my exec committee on this!

However, just a BIG thank you from SAOUG for all the effort you put into this trip and for your enthusiastic training.

  4. Glad to know that things are going swimmingly at South Africa. You know Ivan, you really really do need to go out and enjoy the magnificent (so I heard) landscapes, wildlife, and country. Please also check out Sun City and submit a report to the government to tell them what its like... ha..

You know, the true test of a blogger is the ability to blog anywhere, anytime under any conditions. I think you have qualified yourself as one Ivan.
